Joining stations

RE the story on police cuts (Malvern Gazette,February 22) Well, you could start by considering to move and sell off Malvern Police Station.

We recently read that Malvern Fire Stationis to be redeveloped. The authorities concerned with this could get together with the police authorities and consider designing the new fire station to incorporate a new police station.

The car park that London Midland Railway own behind the present fire station has just not worked for use as a station car park. So this land could be purchased to provide the parking facilities for parking and other service vehicles for the fire service and police.

It makes sense to bring these services together in one location and close to the local community hospital where ambulances could be parked at the rear of the hospital.

The saving would come by selling off the existing police station and using some of that money to go towards building a new station alongside the fire station.

Further savings would come long term by having the two services together and even possibly sharing some of each other’s resources and being able to keep the 999 police callout service in Malvern.
