Never in doubt

Clearly when the bid for these unsightly contraptions was presented the deal was done. Without any regard for the wishes of Malvern residents and clearly from the tone at the council meeting I attended, not all councillors were aware that should the bid be accepted it would be implemented without further debate.
The motion put forward by one of the councillors for further consultation and investigation in the way the bin saga had been dealt with, following discussions relating to the lack of transparency regarding the issue were ignored.
The motion was defeated 17 against and 14 for with four abstentions. Do we vote councillors in to abstain on such important issues? One highly-respected councillor’s lame excuse for his abstention was that the bins had already been purchased.
These councillors have been voted in by the residents and the lack of transparency and consultation are totally unacceptable.
These bins were introduced some 10 years ago and the outcry from the residents resulted in them being removed and user friendly plastic bag system was very successfully brought in.
