Lamb reopening
5:40pm Monday 18th February 2013 in Letters
COUNCILLOR Julian Roskams clearly did not read my letter except in a way to satisfy his own arguments.
Is this the way of the Greens in Malvern?
To reopen this Malvern pub will require a suitable landlord, tenant, manager or owner who is able to demonstrate sufficient ability to hold a licence to sell alcohol on the premises and the finance to buy supplies, employ staff and create an atmosphere which will attract the necessary volume of customers to make it viable.
Undoubtedly there are residents who might like to see the Lamb open again as Councillor Roskams has insisted because of his research.
Unfortunately research of itself will not replace experience and in my experience a lack of customers will destroy any attempt to make the Lamb a viable proposition for any incoming landlord.
Indeed, why did Punch Taverns sell the Lamb in the first place?
In upper Malvern we have already lost the Vaults, the Morgan and the Portobello and in every case these failures were because of a shortage of customers and the resulting income.
If there are residents in West Malvern who can find the community monies to reopen the Lamb then so be it but make no mistake, it will have to be a viable proposal, or failure will come again.
