MALVERN Hills Amnesty group thanks all those volunteers who helped at the Write for Rights Day on Saturday. Although it was a bitterly cold day, people stopped and paused in their shopping to sign a card and send a simple message of support and solidarity to those suffering human rights abuses, or they wrote a letter to governments to ask them to see that justice is done to defend them.
Cards have gone all over the world to South Africa, USA, Zimbabwe, Egypt. Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, China, Iraq, Syria, and others.
To prisoners on death row and for family members waiting for news of a relative who has “disappeared”, these messages give comfort and hope for their future.
What better time to send them these messages than during the Season of Goodwill?
