MALVERN Hills District Brass Band enjoyed a successful time at the Wychavon Entertainments Contest in Pershore on Sunday (September 21).
This popular contest attracts bands from all over the country playing a wide variety of music, having just 20 minutes to entertain the adjudicator.
It was the band's first contest with recently appointed musical director John Swindells.
Everyone was delighted when flugelhorn player Hazel Duncan won the best soloist award for her rendition of The Way We Were.
Malvern Hills District Brass Band were placed second-best local band overall, just behind West Mercia Constabulary Band.
“This is a lovely end to a busy summer season of engagements,” said Mr Swindells. “It is the bands 30th anniversary next year and we intend to go from strength to strength.”
You can hear the band again at the Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph and in the Priory on Sunday, November 9, and also at the annual Christmas concert at Huntington Hall, Worcester, on Saturday, December 6.
