Many West Malvern residents will have been saddened by news of the death of our last village postmaster Don James. He was a pattern maker in his native Birmingham until the arthritis which afflicted him throughout his later life forced a change of career. For 30 years from 1976 until retirement to Malvern Link, he and his wife Ivy ran the Post Office at 201 West Malvern Road (now a private house, but commemorated by the mock letterbox on the wall outside painted by former resident Katy Francis). “We didn’t make a much money but we were happy in West Malvern and made a lot of friends there,” said Ivy.

There should be some serious celebration at the Royal British Legion tomorrow Saturday October 8th, in the form of a combined birthday party for Richard Hammond (63) and 85-year-old John Burton. There will be music from the Pontiacs, a free buffet and a charity raffle for the Malvern Community Hospital. All are welcome – the fun will start at 8pm.
