The President Val Graham welcomed the few members and our speaker Peter Rowlands who had braved the torrential rain with thunder and lightning to attend our September meeting.

Peter was visiting us to talk on Macmillan Support, he has spent many years with Macmillan previously as the Fund Manager now days a speaker. Peter explained to us the difference between Macmillan nurses and Marie Curie nurses being Macmillan nurses work in the hospitals and hospice’s and went on to explain how they are already experienced nurses but how they are specially trained by Macmillan. Marie Curie nurses go in to help patients who prefer to stay in their own home. Macmillan also provides items for patient’s e.g. electric beds and chairs or maybe a microwave oven to make their lives more comfortable. A vote of thanks was given by Estelle who thanked Peter for such an informative and enlightening talk.

We then had our refreshment break in which we were treated to cakes by Dorothy Meadows, who had recently celebrated her 94th Birthday.

After the break we resumed with WI business our secretary Eileen Hunt read the minutes of the previous meeting and discussed forth coming events with the members. It was decided as the weather was still inclement we would finish early in the hope we arrived home before the next downpour.

The next meeting of Parkway WI is 11th October 2016 in The Baptist Hall, The Homend, Ledbury at 2pm. The speaker will be Sara Stringer from Wiltshire Farm Foods.

Visitors and New Members always welcome.
