IT’S time to once more support the bus service that comes through Wellington Heath: the 675 bus is used by many of the villagers and Herefordshire Council have announced that there will be a reduction in spending for passenger transport over the next three financial years .They are inviting the public to take part in a consultation reviewing the bus services. Please go to www.herefordshire.gov.uk/public-transport and fill in the questionnaire asking for the bus service to remain. We can’t do without our bus!

Sunday morning service at Christ Church is Family Communion, 9.30am. Don’t forget to diarize the Harvest Service on 9 October, 11am, to be followed by a lunch at the Memorial Hall.

The Marie Curie Charity Concert on Saturday 24 September, 7.30pm will be held in the Baptist Church. Tickets are £8 and are available at The Three Counties Bookshop. Two of the villagers will be contributing to the entertainment. Please support this good cause.

And another date for your diary is Saturday 8 October, the annual Quiz Night. Come and pit your brains against possibly the greatest brains in Wellington Heath.

September is the spider mating season which means that the males will be leaving their webs and coming into our warm, cosy homes to look for a female. It is said that there will be an influx of them this year, so be sure to clean in all the nooks and crannies of your home. A strong deterrent to spiders is the peel of citrus fruits: apparently they don’t like the aroma. Place these on your window sills and renew every few days.

And a thought to end with: Did you know that a spider spins his web so that every alternate ring is sticky (to catch his prey), and the others are non-sticky (so that he can run safely around on them)?

Have a wonderful week!
