THE first August Meeting of the Malvern Probus Club took place on Monday, August 1 at the Abbey Hotel Malvern. The speaker was Mr John Berkeley OBE who’s talk was entitled “Wings and Wheels”.

He described how the vast majority of the tens of thousands of aircraft built in both World Wars were produced, not by aircraft companies, but by the West Midlands car manufacturers. In fact the first aircraft to be built in a car factory was back in 1910. The talk uncovered the story of airborne Austins and flying Standards.

The 37 members present were greatly appreciative.

The next meeting at the same venue will be on August 15 when the subject will be “The Imminent Medical Revolution”
