WE had a wonderful week, celebrating 150 years of worship in the building. Three concerts with a variety of different types of music were held during the week.

The choir from Great Malvern Primary School visited their old school building in Lansdowne Crescent to give a short concert on Wednesday 29th June. They sang a variety of songs, some of them in Welsh and some as rounds, all from memory.

The school started its life as the Wesleyan School in the rooms under Lansdowne Crescent Methodist Church. 100 years ago there were 140 children in 4 classes in the hall and the inspectors condemned the building, so a new school was built in Pickersleigh Road. The school happens to be celebrating its centenary in the same year as the church celebrates 150 years, so it was a good opportunity for the children to see the former classrooms. They talked to Roy Holland, a pupil at their school before World War 2, and Christopher Davis whose family worshipped at Lansdowne for several generations.

An exhibition of old photographs and documents was open every day during Malvern Civic Week. On Saturday afternoon Marlyn Barr and friends from the Tuesday Cafe put on a short concert, followed by afternoon tea, and on Sunday evening the Christian Witness Choir sang the musical, “Barnabas”.

Future 150th anniversary events include Sunday services taken by former ministers, a church picnic, and an outdoor Songs of Praise at 6.30 on Sunday 17 July. Visit www.lansdownemethodist.org.uk for details; all are welcome.
