The Restoration Project at St Faith's Church that is so generously supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund is now well under way. Archaeologists have been on site all week to record and report any finds, and it has been fascinating to hear their views of the discoveries. We're all a little disappointed that a head hasn't been found to match up with our headless effigy in the bell tower; but the pieces of mediaeval pottery have made a real connection with the people who once lived here. The archaeologists have brought both experience and an infectious enthusiasm; meeting them has encouraged us to look with fresh eyes at details in our cherished building. Still, the identity of the effigy is elusive, but the research, which is also funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is uncovering another trail of written information about the reality of life in the past. It's not often that you have the chance to see the unfolding of evidence, and we'd love to show off what has been going on in this beautiful rural part of the county.

We are also delighted that another phase of work repairing the churchyard wall is starting: this is all due to the wonderful efforts to support St Faith's following the Jon Palmer Memorial Charity Football matches.

The church will be open on the afternoon of July 9, from 2 to 4pm, for the Summer Fete, which will be held in the Berrow Village Hall and the church grounds. Do come along and enjoy all the pleasures of a traditional fete and the chance to meet those involved in the Restoration Project.
