THE Chairman, Maureen Williams, welcomed two new members to our Guild. A coach outing to Weston-super-Mare was enjoyed by members on 26 May. We were impressed with the improvements made to the town and the tide was in! We look forward to a day at Stratford-upon-Avon on 21 July. We were reminded about the 50th anniversary lunch on 26 October and the Christmas lunch at the Worcestershire Golf Club on 16 December.
Some members went to a garden party hosted by St. John's Guild, Worcester and spent a pleasant evening meeting up with old friends from Hereford Guild too. Our Speaker for the day was Penny Platt who spoke about "Half Timbered Herefordshire". Penny explained how green oak is such a wonderful building material which lasts for hundreds of years. Gaul ink which is made from oak apples was used for parchment illustrations and the colours are still vivid after hundreds of years. We saw beautiful photographs of buildings in Weobley, Pembridge, Eardisland, Ledbury, Bromyard and Hereford City. Cruck frame building and wattle and daub finishes were carefully explained and it made you want to jump in the car to visit all the places shown. Penny has a clear voice and a lovely sense of humour.
If you would like to visit us at Clarence Park Village, Malvern Link, we meet on the third Thursday of each month at 10.15am. The next meeting will be August 18 when you would be very welcome. Contact Maureen on 01684 575937 or Joyce on 01684 573562 for further information.
