AT our recent June meeting, Heather Whatley gave a very interesting and informative presentation on the life and work of Dame Laura Knight, a prolific English artist who worked in many different media. She was created a Dame in 1929 and in 1936 became the first women elected to the Royal Academy. We were able to see many examples of her work including some produced during the Second World War, when

she was an official war artist. Dame Laura had many connections with Malvern and we were able to spot some of the areas featured in her paintings.

During the month we held our regular lunches, coffee mornings, craft and book clubs together with a river trip from Worcester, which was followed by an excellent cream tea! We also took part in the Wells Community BIG lunch, celebrating The Queen’s 90th Birthday. We will be at Bands in the Park selling scones, cakes, books, and plants on Sunday 26th June, the first Sunday of Malvern Civic Week 2016.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 14th July at 7.30pm in the Malvern Wells Village Hall, when we will be learning more about the new Breast Cancer Haven at Worcester Hospital. Visitors are always welcome, so do come and learn about the Worcester Breast Cancer Haven.
