A CONCERT of musical treasures by young composers whose lives were extinguished or forever changed during World War One will be presented in Dymock Church on Saturday 2 July at 7.30pm (to coincide with the centenary of the beginning of the catastrophic Battle of the Somme). Peter Wilman (tenor) from Welsh National Opera accompanied by Bob May together with St Mary’s Singers will perform music by the burgeoning talent of Butterworth, Purcell Warren, Kelly, Gurney, Wilkinson, Jephson, Manson, Farrar and others – part of a tragic lost generation of musical potential. Tickets (Adults £10, Students £3) are available from Dymock Shop 01531 890676 or at the door. There will also be a an exhibition in Dymock Parish Hall during the afternoon featuring many aspects of social history including rare and fascinating photography of Dymock and surrounding villages around the time of 1916. Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served in the church all afternoon.
