IT IS very exciting to report that the first stage of restoration at St Faith's Church is complete: the lime pointing that has been expertly done in the Chancel now shows off the ancient stones in this fine building. The steps have been repaired and also blemishes to the windows. The pointing on the outside walls is coarser in texture to blend in with the handsome rectangular tower that is such a distinctive feature to look out for in Berrow.
The next stage of the project is now starting: this is generously supported by a Development Grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and will deal with the underlying cause of the damp, and repair the damage that has been done. The grant also covers 'new works' which include improvements to the lighting and research into the mysterious stone effigy.
The church will be opened specially on the afternoon of the Berrow Summer Fete on Saturday 9 July from 2 to 4pm.
Please do come along and enjoy refreshments and activities in this beautiful rural setting, and the chance to see the process of a very interesting restoration project, aptly named – Faith in the Future.
