IN the absence of Catherine Best, Jean Davies welcomed members and WI Advisor, Mrs Patience Broad, to the annual meeting of Storridge WI.

It was the last opportunity for members to put their names in the events book to go on the town walk in Bewdley on July 19. Travel arrangements will be made nearer to the date of the outing.

Those members who attended the Elgar Group meeting at Alfrick on April 27, enthused about the speaker, Francis Benton and her talk “A passion for pearls”.

Mary Herbert proposed a summer outing to a garden near Twyning, where local artists are invited to display their sculptures.

Members expressed their willingness to contribute towards the catering for our 80th birthday celebrations next month.

The annual meeting started with the appointment of the Auditors for the coming year before the Treasurer presented the financial statement. She emphasised how important our fund raising events are to the financial viability of our WI.

Our Secretary then delivered her report and highlighted all of the events, speakers and outings that we have been able to enjoy over the past twelve months.

In the absence of our President, Jean read out Catherine’s report in which she highlighted her own memorable events over the past year and also she expressed her thanks to everyone who contributed towards the success of Storridge WI.

Catherine will continue as President for the coming year.

Patience then took members through the NFWI’s resolutions, Avoid food waste-address food poverty and Appropriate care in hospital for people with dementia. Members were encouraged to express their opinions on both topics and after some debate in was agreed that we would support both resolutions by majority votes.

The meeting ended with a short quiz with members deliberating over their answers whilst enjoying refreshments.

The next meeting will be a celebration of Storridge WI’s 80th birthday, to be held on June 9. A finger buffet will be served and Mrs Janet Woodfield has agreed to present a flower demonstration.
