THERE were lots of ideas for hanging baskets and containers thanks to Philip Aubrey’s talk at our April meeting. We looked at a variety of containers and he told us the pros and cons about each one; and his slides demonstrated a range of planting schemes to suit all tastes. He gave a practical demonstration with clear explanations and tips for success. He answered questions about suitable composts and members shared tips of their own. We were also able to buy his home grown plants and some lovely art work. Philip was the Director of Birmingham Botanical Gardens for 20 years, which he encouraged us to visit.

Our next meeting will be on May 17 at 7.30pm in the West Malvern Village Hall. Our speaker will be Brian Draper sharing a ‘Naturalist’s View of Scotland’. This is our last meeting until September although club members will be visiting gardens and enjoying a Treasure Trail in the summer break. We also have an Annual Show August 20 which is open to everyone. You can read more about us on the West Malvern hall and village website. Club members Phil and Deidre Drake have a N.G.S. Open Garden Sunday May 15 at The Model Farm signs from Croft Bank will guide you to one of the gems of West Malvern Village.

If you would like to join us membership is £5 and £2 per meeting, visitors £3. Refreshments are included. We are a friendly club, of all ages, and are always happy to meet new people, so come and join us.
