THE March AGM saw the membership enjoy an excellent buffet and an even better talk by Peter Garner after the business part of the meeting.
Peter’s talk was entitled, ‘Plants of the Malvern Hills, Nature’s Palette’. He took us on a walk from End Hill as far as the Wyche. The different colours on the hills were explained as the variety of grasses and bilberries; to the after effects of cattle grazing and the burning of undergrowth, encouraging plants to grow. Some of these plants are rare and grow in unexpected places. Peter showed us the variety of plants which many of us pass by without noticing as we climb. He said that the appearance of Tète a Tète daffodils was caused by dogs, this brought a moment of confusion to the members, until he explained that they were memorials to departed pets. We finished this year’s talk conveniently behind the Public Conveniences at the Wyche looking for Climbing Corydalis! He promises continue this walk and to take us to British Camp next year.
Tuesday April 19 at 7.30pm we will be learning about planting ‘Hanging Baskets and Containers’, a practical demonstration from Philip Aubrey. We look forward to picking up suggestions for improving our displays and some new ideas.
We are a friendly club and always pleased to welcome visitors and new members. Membership is £5 and £2 a meeting, visitors £3, with refreshments.
