THE visit to Worcester Infirmary was interesting but at the same time rather disappointing, as members could not go into some places that they would like to have seen as doors were locked.

The museum however was very interesting.

Carol is progressing well with embroidering members names on the new tablecloth. Members were asked for suggestions for future outings. Correspondence - letter from Ruth Pole thanking the Guild for the donation to Mercy Ships. Thank you card from Sheila Sumner. Letter from Connie Nunn, our National Trustee, saying that she would like to visit the Guild sometime. Invitation from HQ for two members to go to the National Chairman's At Home in Birmingham in March 2016. Our Chairman and Secretary will go to this. Music - they have a booking at St Mary's Hall on November 4, and they are now rehearsing a new programme of 1960s music. They were also pleased to hear that Hastings has printed a leaflet advertising the Guild choir. Sales Table - we would like to have items that would be suitable Christmas gifts next month as the talk is going to be about gift wrapping.

Members were asked if they would like to have a stall sometimes at Clarence Park selling perhaps bric-a-brac, jewellery, preserves, etc. We will get more information about the possibility.

Our speaker this month was Elfed Jones with his talk Media Rollercoaster. Mr Jones is a radio commentator on various sports, cricket, rugby, football etc. He spent 15 years at Birmingham City and Aston Villa and has accreditation to go into any match, the authorities are very strict about that. Commentators have to do a lot of research and they must also be accurate all the time. When broadcasting they must never crash the pips or in other words go over the allotted time, and they also have to use their initiative if things go wrong. Apart from doing radio commentating he has also written reports for newspapers, and these have to be concise, and of course accurate. He has also worked for hospital radio in Birmingham for 40 years, and in fact is still working for hospital radio. Mr Jones certainly gave us an insight into radio commentating.

Our speaker next month will be Kathy Knill on The Art of Gift Wrapping.

The Guild meets on the third Thursday of the month at 10.15am at Clarence Park Village Hall. Visitors are always welcome.
