WELLINGTON HEATH

LAST week’s Harvest Service was well attended and the church adorned with beautiful flower arrangements.

Thanks to all who made both the church service and the lunch afterwards a great success.

Please diarise Saturday, November 28 for the village Angelic Christmas Fayre to be held in the Memorial Hall from 10am–noon. There will be craft stalls, and donations are needed towards the raffle, tombola stand etc. If you can help in any way, or wish to put up a craft stall, please contact Marilyn on 01531 633140.

A Halloween party is planned for Saturday, October 31 at the Memorial Hall. Children’s party games will start at 7pm and they are encouraged to bring along a carved pumpkin for the Spooky Carved Pumpkin Competition. Hotdogs will be available at 8pm, and parents and children alike should dress up for the Fancy Dress Competition. Come and enjoy music and dancing, adults £2.50, children £1.50 and proceeds go towards supporting the Memorial Hall. For more information, contact Natalie on 01531 632431.

The notion of Halloween is taken from All Hallows, Day of All Saints which was celebrated on November 1 in Christian tradition, and was also known as Light of the World Day. Today many people prefer to celebrate this as an alternative to Halloween, which replaced the pagan festival of Samhain where scary face-masks were worn.

The Mothers and Tots Group that meet at the Memorial Hall on a Tuesday morning are still looking for a volunteer to come along and pour cool drinks and make tea. If you can help, please phone Christine on 01531 633540.

The Ledbury Road through the village, from the oak tree down onto the Bosbury Road, is scheduled to be closed until Monday morning. On November 2, the road between the oak tree and Petty France is scheduled to be closed for a couple of days. Whether or not this will happen remains to be seen, but please be prepared.

And a thought to end with: ‘Someone once said: “I complained that I had no shoes – until I met someone who had no feet.” Let’s not take our blessings for granted but be enthusiastically thankful.’

Have a great week!
