I SOMETIMES wonder if we have lost a sense of who we are as human beings.

When I see all the concentration on family history and near obsession for antiques and old buildings seen on television, the future vision is just not there. Of course history is important: It is our guide to avoiding the same mistakes in the future if we take it seriously. That said, if we have confidence in ourselves rather than relying on the achievements of former generations, then history begins today as we make it now. The problems of today’s world will not be solved by referring to the past for answers. It is up to all of us to take the risk of seeking a way in which each of us can make a difference in a world of need. “Life in all its fullness” is what Jesus promised – let’s work for that for all people.
