THE coffee morning held in September at the Link Nurseries was well supported as people came to hear Peter talk about tomatoes, and to taste samples of different varieties grown at the nurseries, with the assistance of Kirsten, Technical Instructor.

Some of the varieties sampled were Russian Strawberry, Russian Black, Sungold and Vanessa, Indigo Rose and German Strawberry, and several Italian and plum tomatoes. None of these varieties was on sale in supermarkets but they can be bought at the nurseries along with other vegetables. £60 was raised from this coffee morning and funds raised by The Friends will finance a trip for the clients to Stourbridge Show this weekend. They will be exhibiting flowers, fruit and vegetables, including beans, pumpkins, sunflowers with paintings, crafts and photography. Last year 19 awards were received and this year the nurseries are Going for Gold and also entering the Big Bird Scarecrow made on the premises.

There will not be a coffee morning in October; instead there is a Time for Tea party held in Powick Parish Hall on Saturday, October 3 from 1.30pm. On arrival a glass of Prosecco will be served and a flower demonstration will commence at 2pm followed by a delicious afternoon tea. Admission is by ticket only (£8 each) and will include an art exhibition, stalls and raffle. The flower arranging demonstration will be given by Virginia Davis who was a member of the team that created the floral displays to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in London. Tickets are selling fast and can be purchased from the Link Nurseries in Hospital Lane (01905 831881), or ring Lucy on 01905 931330. The event is to mark World Mental Health Week.

This Sunday is Back to Church Sunday at St Peter’s Church at 11am. Everyone is welcome, especially those members of the families whose children are being baptised.
