MEMBERS won the skittles match held at Madresfield against the RBL but did not win any prizes at the Severn Group skittles held at Ryall.

The Severn group 100 Year Garden Party had to be held in the house at Hanley Swan due to the weather so the champagne and strawberries were devoured in the kitchen and conservatories. Members mixed with the other Severn group members and all wore their finery. Members had a competition with photos taken during the previous years of the WI and partnered with someone from another WI.

Members did have an August meeting to discuss the coffee morning on Saturday, September 12 at the Orchard Club when members hoped to promote the WI.

At the September meeting members were greeted with decorated tables and plates of nibbles organised by Janet B and Yvonne, they then had drinks followed by a trifle.

Janet B gave a jolly description of her afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace. Camilla, Sophie and Princess Alexandra greeted the WI members most of whom had trouble keeping their hats on due to the high wind. It was nice to be in such grand surroundings and everyone who went felt special.

Members said goodbye to Jo who has been a member since almost the beginning and has in the past been President, she gave a little speech stressing that members are family.

Although Jo lived at St Peter’s she always felt part of Powick and members are sure she will soon settle into her new abode in North Devon and wish her well.

Members have received a bursary to go to Denman but as a suitable course has not been found they may organise a day-trip with a minibus for all members to go and see Denman College.

The next meeting is on October 14 about The Suffragettes.
