88-YR-OLD Ledbury resident Barbara Hooper was amazed when she won this the Feathers Hotel Challenge Cop for cookery at this year’s Ledbury Horticultural Society Flower Show on August 31.

The show was held in the Ledbury Community Centre on Carnival Day and included outstanding displays of home-grown vegetables and flowers as well as creative classes of crafts, pictures and photos. The trophy is awarder to the competitor with the most points in classes 69-77 which covered fruit tarts, tea cake, Victoria sponges, rich cakes, sausage rolls and scones, as well as a variety of preserves. This was the first time Barbara had ever won a trophy for anything and she was delighted. It was a great day for Barbara since, in addition to winning the cookery trophy, she also won first prize for her painting of Old Ledbury.
