ELLEN Gwynne welcomed all members to the August meeting, with a special welcome to Sue Matthews who had joined that evening.

Boards were circulated for the visit to the National Memorial Arboretum on October 9, the Christmas Trip to Blenheim Palace on Friday, November 20 and the Annual Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 20. Shelagh Willis will be co-ordinating entries for Our Favourite Things competition.

Angela Pulford gave details of the next visit of the recently formed Local History Group, which will be on September 2 to the Master’s House, Ledbury. Dates were also given of the next meetings of the Luncheon, Book, Playlets, Embroidery and Rambling Clubs.

A birthday posy was prepared for Peggy Johnson, who was not with us as she was enjoying a family celebration. A surprise birthday posy had been prepared for Angela Jones, who prepares the lovely posies each month for members, and Ellen presented this to Angela with thanks from all the members for all her efforts.

At the September 1 meeting members have someone from the Alzheimer’s Society coming to speak.

October 6 meeting – This will be an open meeting - Mr Aslam – orthopaedic surgeon from Worcester Royal is coming along. There will be a small charge for visitors of £2.50, which includes refreshments. Husbands, partners and friends are welcome to come along.

Ellen then introduced the speaker Liz Haste who ran a workshop painting on silk when every member had the opportunity to have a go. Members thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and everyone was pleasantly surprised by the results. Chris Haines thanked Liz for all the preparation and effort she had put into the workshop and said how much she and everyone else had enjoyed the experience.

The monthly competition – a silk scarf - was won by Sue Benjamin.
