THE weeks of the school holidays are speeding by but there are memories of the end of the last term to recall.

At Powick Primary School a Big Picnic was held on the school playing field when past pupils and staff joined with present pupils and staff for a farewell party. The Head Richard Drewett and music teacher Jan Appleby were leaving the school.

The school governors presented a day’s woodwork course and a set of tools to Richard and the Open the Book team a gardening voucher. At the Leavers’ service in Powick Church words of appreciation were expressed to Mr Drewett and Mrs Appleby by Chair of the Governors Julia Page and by deputy Head Anthony Dixon-Gough. The 28 pupils of Year 6 (who wore their Leavers Sweat-shirts) were presented with Maths Dictionaries.

At the Leavers Service of Callow End Primary School, held in St James’ Church, Year 6 told of their memories of school: their favourites were the trip to Llanrig Outdoor Centre and to Young Voices in Birmingham. They also led the prayers. The 11 leavers were each presented with a copy of the Good News Bible (New Testament).

At Madresfield Primary School the Leavers Service was held in the church where the Year Six pupils received New Testaments and the Headteacher Mrs Debbie Langston was presented with a rose bush, pot and vase, plus gardening tokens on her retirement as Head after many years at the school.

Link Nurseries’ Coffee Morning held last Friday was very successful in spite of the rain! Many children enjoyed making miniature gardens in a tray of soil, using many items – tiny model houses, gravel, mosaic tiles, tiny plants, small toy animals etc. Mums and grand parents sampled the homemade cakes and the children the decorated biscuits. The raffle produced a lot of interest and the shop was open while vegetables were purchased from the produce grown at the nurseries. The next coffee morning will be held on Friday, September 11 when you can discover the 30 varieties of tomato grown at the Link Nurseries, and enjoy more cakes and coffee! Vegetables and fruit will be on sale.
