IT is the custom of the club to recognise each year the contribution a local person has made to the community.

These are people who share the values that we do as Rotarians to give support and assistance to the community locally and internationally.

This year the Clubs Community Award Certificate was presented to Tom Clapton, who for years has been incredibly active in giving support to a number of charities locally.

The list of causes that Tom has supported includes Cancer Research UK, Friends of Malvern Community Hospital, RNLI, Save the Children, SIGHT Concern and St Richards Hospice, amongst others.

As an example of Tom's commitment, a year or two ago his son sang at a concert as a fund-raiser for Acorns Children's Hospice. Tom sold three quarters of the tickets! He has been organising the volunteers' rota for the Midland Charity Association's Christmas card shop for 30 years. He does coffee mornings for charities and he bakes cakes and mince pies for such occasions. Our informant estimates 3000 a year!

The award was made by immediate Past President, Roger Watson.
