SATURDAY, August 8 dawned with full sunshine to give the Wyche & Colwall Horticultural Society 72nd Summer Flower & Produce show the start it would wish for.

From 8.30am competitors from the villages and further afield were streaming into Colwall Village Hall with their perfectly formed exhibits; potted plants, single stems, floral arrangements; five potatoes, five pods of peas and two matching cucumbers for the fifty four classes for flowers and vegetables.

Additionally there were classes for floral art, handicraft and photography; all closely related to the season and gardens, flower or veg. Aspiring horticulturalists, gardeners to you and I, had the opportunity to show their skills with a Garden Scene in a Jam Jar, a Decorated Plant Pot and a Pretty Token to give to a Bride, in two age groups, 7 and under and 8 to 13.

The interior of the Village Hall was transformed with exhibits whilst the Meeting Room had displays of imagination and skill. The Scout Hut showed how well vegetables could be presented in their prime.

With approaching 200 visitors the day was a resounding success and fourteen happy exhibitors shared the sixteen prizes and deserve our congratulations;
