WE had a good attendance at the cathedral on Sunday, July 5 for the County VE/VJ commemoration service built into the normal Sunday afternoon evensong service at 4pm.

A crowded cathedral witnessed the parade of massed standards from branches around the county before and after the service and included regimental associations as well.

During the service, wreaths were laid by veterans of the Second World War to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice and contributed to our freedom today. Powick and Callow End branch were well represented at the service and had both standard bearers participating.

In the next few months we have quite a lot happening with our annual skittles challenge against the WI on August 21 and the Group 3 inter branch skittles coming up probably in October at Claines.

Following the success of our cheese and wine evening in May we will be having another event in Callow End in October and this will take the form of a Grand Bingo Evening at Callow End WM Club, further details to follow so watch this space.
