THE June meeting was a delightful afternoon with Arnaud Metaire, our demonstrator, whose subject was From my Shed.

He is a flower arranger and gardener who has two sheds, one for storage of flower arranging material and the other space to make arrangements for weddings, demonstrations and competitions.

His first arrangements were set at each side of a green mirror with shutters. He used hosta, aspidistra and bergenia leaves with ferns, grasses, pink campanula, purple alstroemeria, pale pink roses, carnations and Sweet William.

The next arrangement was light and airy with yellow foliage to complement the wicker basket on which it stood. The flower colours were orange antirrhinums and roses with orange to red Calla lilies.

For the third arrangement Arnaud used a bird bath filled with manipulated phormium leaves, hosta and rhamnus, alchemilla, tiny pink tumbling roses and shocking pink grevillea and midelino sticks.

A storm lantern with a candle inside was the base for the next dramatic arrangement. He used coconut spades and husks sprayed silver, green foliage including ramshorn laurel and eleagnus. The flowers were white galega, avalanche roses, antirrhinums and orchids.

The final arrangement was set amongst willow rings with phormium, euonymus, copper beech, fir, fatsias, bear grass, yellow/orange lizianthus, roses and Anthurium pistache. A wonderful colour combination.

Club members and friends enjoyed an outing to Hereford Cathedral with a tour of the Secret Gardens.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, July 28, 2pm at Hanley Swan Village Hall.

Visitors are most welcome.
