CIVIC Week started at Christ Church on Saturday, July 11 with the Civic Gala Concert by the Canzona Children’s Choir and Recorder Quartet, from Marianske Lazne.

They absolutely delighted a full audience with their enchanting performances. Perfectly suited to our acoustics they were so pure and fresh with their wide ranging repertoire. The soloists were quite outstanding and as they sang Do, Re, Mi the Sound of Music was definitely present! From Mozart to Karl Jenkins , their own Czech Folk Songs and even Scarborough Fair they captured the innocence of youth and entertained us. One highlight was the young and extremely gifted Klara Skalkova who played Schumann and the not so well known Burgmuller on our beautiful Grand piano. It was a sheer pleasure to fill the Church with these young voices and players who have travelled so far to be with us in Malvern this week.

Tomorrow, Saturday, July 18 we are holding a Book Fair with refreshments and once again a wide range of books, CDs, DVDs and cards and gifts will be available for you to browse . And at 3.30pm we are delighted that Tim Sidford , piano and Louisa Davidson, clarinet ,will be performing as the Boehm Duo. It promises to be a super summer afternoon with music by Stanford, Finzi & Brahms, tickets £10, Concessions £8, book at Great Malvern Hotel or on the door. Coffee and home made cakes will be available in the interval.

This concludes our very busy Civic Week but do visit www.christchurch-malvern.org.uk for all that is happening.

We have our regular Holy Communion Service at 11am on Sunday, July 19 where you will be made very welcome.
