Never let it be said that West Malvern lacks activity!

Every month the excellent monthly church magazine Hills Echo, edited by David Matthews and distributed free to every household by willing volunteers, lists a wonderful array of social, cultural and sporting events and happenings, and the new (July) edition is no exception.

Pride of place this week must of course go to the well established and well-advertised WestFest which will take place tomorrow(Saturday, July 4) at the Playing Fields from 11.30am-10pm. West Malvern's answer to Glastonbury, it is remarkable not only for its three stages and, this year, 15 bands plus a diverse range of local entertainments, but also for being organised, manned and managed almost entirely by members of our local community, with any profits are distributed to local organisations and charities. All we need is the weather – forecast at the time of writing looks pretty good! Oh, and some traffic congestion and parking problems are inevitable; if you plan to go to town, probably best to travel via the Wyche!

Next Friday, July 10 our happy and high-achieving village school will be holding its annual summer fair from 3.15pm-5pm – well worthy of your support and interest. And that same evening there will be a meeting in the Village Hall at 7pm with view to forming a new youth club for the village.

Other upcoming events in July are the Andy Dakin memorial cricket match at Mathon Court on Sunday, July 11 - bring your own picnic; and an unusual concert of early instrumental music with period instruments by the Waites of Gloucester in St James's Church on July 25 in aid of the organ fund. A sort of mediaeval WestFest?!

Finally, congratulations to the Reverend Emma Goldby, curate in West Malvern for the past year, who last weekend was ordained Priest by the Bishop of Worcester in a ceremony at Worcester Cathedral.
