ONE month after our very successful VJ and VE cheese and wine evening, in the villages people are still talking about it proving what an enjoyable time we all had.

Now after all the excitement and after the sums have been done we are delighted to reveal that on the night we made a profit of over £400 to be donated to the Poppy appeal and branch funds.

The success of the event could not have happened without the weeks of hard work put in by the branch members and on the night by some very helpful friends, with particular thanks to Anne and Gwen for all their hard work promoting the evening and for the biscuits and butter tea and coffee etc. We are also grateful for the help of Dave Bailey as car park steward and Jim Allsopp for looking after the bar and for the immense help of Carol and Steve in setting up and serving in the kitchen. There were so many helpers so don’t be offended if we have not mentioned you all but I must thank the very many kind people who donated prizes for the raffle which raised £130.

As mentioned in the last report we will as a branch be supporting the County RBL at the special service in July at the Cathedral to commemorate the end of the Second World War when the public are encouraged to join us for the evensong service on July 5 at 4pm.

One item to affect all members is that a new protocol has been introduced affecting the payment of annual subscriptions when they come up for renewal. All members will receive a letter from HQ advising of any changes that may affect them

If you would like to join us as a Legion member we would welcome you with open arms and remember anyone can become a member of the Royal British Legion, old or young, male or female and you DO NOT have to be ex-service to be a member.

If you would like to get involved and join us contact John Mason on 01905 830805.

Our next branch meeting will be on Tuesday, July 14 at Madresfield Club starting at 8.15pm prompt, so why not come along and join us.
