THE longest day of 2015 has past and our weather this summer has been, in true English tradition, a curate's egg.

But are we downhearted? Of course not, we're British! So we plan our holidays, day's out, garden visits and summer fetes as though the sun would shine every day... So at this month's Hanley Community Cafe & Market, tomorrow, (Saturday, June 27) our theme is It's Holiday Time! We will have loads of information about what to do come rain or shine, our very own travel counsellor with some invaluable tips and, to get you in the mood we have live steel band to set the scene for the sunny Caribbean.

In addition there will be the usual range of stall holders selling fresh bread, honey, preserves, fresh vegetables, garden plants, cheese, jewellery, pies, cakes, cards and a mass of other products between 10am and 12.30pm, plus live music from our regular pair of keyboard musicians. As always there is a raffle and cafe where you can sit with friends and drink fresh coffee and enjoy homemade cakes at a very reasonable price, and this Saturday there could be scones and cream so often a feature of cricket teas.

Profits from the cafe and market go to local good causes and we currently involved with seeding wild orchids into our village's verges.
