AS England faces New Zealand in the second day of the second test match Hanleys Community Cafe & Market hopes to discover some great cricket players of the future during its cricket themed event tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 30).

Members of the Upton & Hanley Cricket Club will be on the playing field adjacent to Hanley Swan village hall suitably equipped to show young and old the basics of the game (English weather

permitting!) Inside the hall club members will be on hand to explain the game and some of its more outlandish terms such as sledging, bouncers and deep square leg...

In addition there will be the usual range of stall holders selling fresh bread, honey, preserves, fresh vegetables, garden plants, cheese, jewellery, pies, cakes, cards and a mass of other products between 10am and 12.30pm, plus live music from our regular pair of keyboard musicians. As always there is a raffle and cafe where you can sit with friends and drink fresh coffee and enjoy homemade cakes at a very reasonable price, and this Saturday there could be scones and cream so often a feature of cricket teas.

Profits from the cafe and market go to local good causes and this month we have helped fund a day coach trip for villagers to the Welsh Botanical Gardens and given a donation to the Hanleys Wine Cooperative for extra equipment.
