MEMBERS at the well-attended May meeting listened to a fascinating talk called Finding the Father of Hi-Fi.

Given by Malvern-based Professor David Briggs, it told the story of the legendary Wharfedale Hi-Fi speakers and their much-admirer builder, Gilbert Briggs. David’s grandfather's cousin, Gilbert Briggs lived in the Yorkshire town of Ilkley when he developed his first speakers in the early 1930s. He later built a small factory in Bradford in order to supply the world with the loudspeaker drive units which are still respected today.

The next meeting on June 3 will include a talk called Surnames, their history and meanings given by Richard Churchley.
