Last Tuesday 19 walkers from Powick Ramblers, plus dogs Tilly and Monty, walked four miles around Callow End and the Old Hills. From Bush Lane the path led over the Old Hills to Deblins Green, over to the fields behind the old Powick Hospital site, to Ridgeway Farm and on to Jennett Tree Lane and Bosworth Farm. After reaching Upper Woodsfield the path led back onto the Old Hills and the walkers arrived at the Old Bush for lunch and refreshment. The walk was led by David and Ginnie Russell. The weather was fine and sunny and the countryside looked stunning in the new green of the foliage, and with the blossom and wild flowers of spring. Walks in June are arranged by the Malvern Walking Festival.

Last Saturday, St Mary’s Church in Kempsey played host to Powick Community Choir, led by its Musical Director Tom Wells. The audience enjoyed numbers from the shows (Westside Story, Chorus Girl, and Les Miserables) and classical songs by Handel (Zadok the Priest), Bach (Jesu, Joy), Parry (Jerusalem), Mozart (Rex Tremendae) and Rutter (The Lord Bless You). Soloists Louisa Sandy, Jenny Newton, John Hadley, David Wilson and Sally Kidd sang songs ranging from shows such as Chess, Blood Brothers, Porgy and Bess plus there was a duet by Louisa and Jenny. Tom’s composition Make me your servant, Lord and his arrangement of Nunc Dimittis and the Gloria were well received. Charles Pavey played the piano accompaniment and organ. Special thanks go to Marian and David Walters for introducing the items and to St Mary’s Social Committee for providing wine and juice during the interval.

The Christian Aid coffee morning held in Callow End last Saturday raised £170 for this year’s appeal. Frances Betts would like to thank all who helped.
