ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POWICK AND CALLOW END BRANCH

DURING the silence and homage we remembered with sadness our most recent new member Sir Gerry Wiggin who passed away last month having had very little time to get to know the members of the branch.

We send our condolences to his family and close friends at this sad time.

We have a RBL County event to look forward to on Sunday, July 5 when there will be a special evensong service at the cathedral to commemorate the end of the Second World War, with a VE and VJ celebration service and it is expected that a parade of standards from all over the county will grace the occasion. This will be held at the normal 4pm evensong service time and all are welcome to attend, standards there for 3.30pm.

Following our last meeting when we were able to finalise details of our forthcoming social evening at Callow End village hall on Wednesday, May 20 with the theme of VE and VJ Remembered, ticket sales are now gaining a pace so please secure your ticket soon if you do not wish to be disappointed.

For many people it will be A Walk Down Memory Lane and promises to be a lot of fun for everyone with some surprises in store. We will start at 7.30pm go on until after 10pm. Admission will be by ticket only in order that we know how many to cater for; tickets at £5 are to be sold in advance and can be obtained from The Old Bush at Callow End and The Three Nuns in Powick and also from Ann Conaboy on 830813 and John Mason on 830805

If you would like to join us as a Legion member we would welcome you with open arms and remember anyone can become a member of the Royal British Legion, old or young, male or female and you DO NOT have to be ex-service to be a member.

If you would like to get involved and join us contact John Mason on 01905 830805.

Our next branch meeting will be on Tuesday, May 12 at Madresfield Club starting at 8.15pm prompt, so why not come along and join us.
