CONGRATULATIONS to the Cubs of 7th Worcester Scout Group (which meets in Powick hall) for raising £750 for Acorns Children’s Hospice last month at Sixways Rugby Ground, Worcester.

They helped with the car parking and received donations in aid of Acorns.

Last Friday’s coffee morning at Link Nurseries was well attended and visitors were able to listen to advice on waking up the garden for Spring! Roger gave tips on looking after the tools, in cleaning flower pots and trays prior to planting seeds. He explained the benefit of using compost and the correct way of watering so as not to saturate the seeds. He demonstrated the preparation of seed potatoes and the sowing of broad beans, and suggested companion planting of marigolds and nasturtium as a pest control. Next month the Coffee Morning will be on Friday. April 19 and visitors can discover how to take cuttings from existing plants and enjoy homemade cakes!

Tomorrow, Saturday, a Coffee Morning with cakes, crafts, books and a raffle will take place in St James’ Church, Callow End from 10am to noon. Proceeds are for Barnabas Fund, supporting persecuted Christians across the world.

Last Sunday a Mothers’ Day service took place at St James’ Church when the story of Noah and the animals was the theme. Children had made masks and some lively songs were enjoyed. All mother received a posy of spring flowers which had been made by Frances Betts.

On Thursday, March 26, Powick Ramblers will meet at 10am at Bromsberrow Church (GR743336) for a 4.5 mile walk to Howlers Heath when it is hoped the wild daffodils will be in flower. The leader is Phil (91886 832774) who suggests lunch at The Duke of York.

On Monday, March 23 the Annual General Meeting of the Trustees and Management Committee of Powick Parish Hall takes place in the meeting room at the hall at 7.30pm. All users and parishioners are invited to raise and discuss matters relating to the hall.

Advance notice is given of a Quiz being held in Powick parish hall on Saturday, April 11 at 7.30pm, on behalf of Powick Playing Field Association. Teams of four are invited to take part; please contact Nick Sandy on 831815 or Jim on 830746. Please bring your own drinks.
