AFTER welcoming members, the President handed the floor to Keren Green, speaker for the evening.

Keren, a resident of the parish, has eighty bee hives in various locations within the three counties and is a bee inspector for Defra. She gave a fascinating talk on bees and beekeeping, covering such topics as the different species of bees, types of hives, the social structure of the colony, harvesting the honey and the problems facing beekeepers. All this information was imparted in a very easy to understand and sometimes humorous way, accompanied by excellent slides. Following the NFWI’s recent resolution to encourage an interest in bees and pollinators Keren’s talk was very relevant.

After tea and biscuits, business included notice of various federation activities, including a town walk in Droitwich, a visit to Harrogate and the Lucy Hingley Lecture. A large group of members had thoroughly enjoyed their New Year lunch at the Duke of York at Berrow.

Next month Bob Price will be talking about working in Nepal. Visitors will be welcome to join on Tuesday, March 10 at 7.30pm in the village hall. For more details of activities please contact the secretary on 01684 592408.
