AT a recent meeting of Malvern Hills Lions Club. Club president Richard Sarginson presented Sim Mayes, chairperson of Diabetes UK, South Worcestershire Voluntary Group with a cheque for £1,100.

This is the groups percentage of the money raised from the Lions clubs 2014 Sponsored Bluebell Walk which was held earlier this year and in partnership Diabetes UK.

Addressing those present at the meeting following the presentation. Richard Kennard treasurer of the Diabetes group said that the money would be past to Diabetes UK via the West Midlands office in Walsall. l would be used for research in to the condition and to promote awareness of it. Richard also said that unfortunately the Malvern Group of the organisation had had to stop meeting due to low turn out to meetings and the cost of venue hire.

For many year Lions clubs in the UK and around the world have actively supported and promoted Diabetes awareness. A large number of clubs holding event in their local areas and countries, on or about the 14th November. Which is international Lions Diabetes Awareness Day World wide.

The date for 2015 Sponsored Bluebell Walk has been set for Sunday, May 31. Planning is well under way. Finalised details should be available from mid to late February 2015.
