THE talk on November 28 was given by Lena Dyche.

The greatest revelation to me was how very little I knew about her native country, Sweden. I'm pleased to say that I am now much better informed through Lena's illustrated guidance. I had certainly not appreciated the sheer size of the country, or the fact that its total population is equivalent to that of London. The variety of terrain revealed through her slides was amazing, from the Arctic north to the busy capital, Stockholm. We were also woefully ignorant of Sweden's famous fathers, although most of us knew that Alfred Nobel was Swedish. I shall hope to persuade Lena to give us another presentation on Scandinavia, as I am sure those present would also like to hear more. Perhaps the Stromstad Twinning Group would like to join us on that occasion.

The Society's Christmas Lunch takes place on Tuesday, December 9: the first such occasion, held last year and organised by Chris Johnson, left members hungry for more.

The first talk of 2015 will be on January 30. It is entitled Paved with colour: the Godwins of Lugwardine and will be given by Rhys Griffith. I hope members and their friends will be able to join us in the Burgage Hall for our monthly presentations. All information is available on our website or by phoning 01531 632247.
