THEY say policemen are getting younger these days.

Well, it seems that in West Malvern so are quiz competitors. Among those present at last week's fundraiser at the Brewers Arms for The Parkinson's Society was Rosy Dakin's little lad, at just about a month old! The event was a big success, with a capacity ten tables and £219 raised for the cause. Organiser Sue Farr has asked us to thank everyone who supported the event.

Quiz enthusiasts need wait no longer for another than until Saturday week, December 13, when the first of the Cricket Club's winter series will take place, also at the Brewers, starting at at 7.30pm.

This Tuesday, December 9, the ever-youthful members of the Garden and Nature Club will be holding their Christmas Party at the Village Hall. This not-to-be missed members-only event will include games, quizzes, carol singing, food - and a short panto in which (we quote) the committee make absolute fools of themselves. There will also be a display of members' photos of themselves between the ages of four and 20 – which should be interesting to say the least!

Then next Sunday December 14, the same committee, together with the Village Hall Committee (there is some overlap!), will hold a Christmas Afternoon Tea in the Hall from 2.30pm– 4pm, in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance. As well as a superior tea and goodies, produce, plants and crafts will be on sale, plus a raffle Father Christmas with a bran tub for the children.

And finally a reminder that it is still not too late to book for tomorrow (Saturday)'s Andy Dakin Memorial Ceilidh at Colwall Village Hall featuring Hodges Dump, in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Tickets £7:50 from Tony Poyner 01684 567238 or the Brewers Arms (568147)
