Tomorrow, Saturday (November 22), there is a Big Quiz and Supper Evening at Powick Parish Hall from 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The event is organised by The Friends of St Peter’s Church and tickets are £7.50 from Mike Briggs (01905 830360). Teams of 4 are needed but individuals can make up teams on the night.

Powick ramblers have been walking this month in areas of Lower Broadheath, on the Eastnor Estate, around the Teme Valley and the Shelseys. The next walk is next Thursday, meeting at the layby at Mamble (GR686713) on the A456 road Bewdley to Newnham Bridge, for a 4.5 mile walk led by Mike (07758702349).

The Remembrance Day morning service held at St Peter’s church, Powick, was well attended as usual, with members of the local branch of the Royal British Legion and members of the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides in attendance. The service saw the laying of poppy wreaths at the war memorial and the Last Post and Reveille sounded. The service was led by Rev Mary Nobles. At Callow End wreaths were laid at 3pm at the village war memorial and followed by a service in St James’ Church. On Tuesday 11th a service of dedication also took place at Callow End at 11am when children from the school were invited to lay small poppy crosses.

Powick Guild’s October meeting welcomed Gerry Taggart who gave a history lesson on the Battles of Powick Bridge which took place dating back to 1642, At the November meeting Jenny Flubacher demonstrated the making of Christmas table decorations. Details were given of the Christmas lunch for this year.

Powick Community Choir is hosting three concerts at Stanbrook Abbey this Christmas. These will be on Sunday December 14 at 7pm and on Monday 15 at 6.45pm and again at 8.45pm. Tickets at £12 will be available from choir members and from The Blue Bell and Pound Stores, Callow End from December 1st.
