WE are hoping to have a team for the ‘Friends of Powick Church’ quiz evening on November 22 and with lots of invitations to Christmas parties from other W.I.s we will be attending the annual carol service at Hanley Swan on December 8.

Our Christmas meal on December 5 will be at lunchtime at Worcester Golf and Country Club but before that; we are going for our monthly lunch-out at ‘The March Hare’ on November 26.

Our President Ann Lyons laid the W.I. wreath at Powick on Remembrance Sunday and Barbie laid the wreath for the Powick Guild.

Three of our members went to Ripple for the Italian evening where we had a quiz and the speaker was an Italian restaurateur from Tewkesbury who answered questions on Italy and we then dined on lasagne and ice cream.

Our speaker for November was Roy Fowler from the Worcestershire Barn Owl Conservation Trust who looks after rescued owls who cannot be returned to the wild and he brought three owls with him: Hannibal the Eagle Owl, Mischief the Tawney Owl and Kate the Barn Owl. They all sat patiently on their perches while Roy showed slides of his work and he often goes into schools to give talks and encourage the children to erect owl boxes in the grounds.

Roy is passionate about his work for the Barn Owl Trust and told of the life cycle of the barn owl with lots of delightful slides. The prettiest marked female is always the boss of the family and dad just has to be a good provider of food with the pair mating for life and the eldest is always first in the pecking order. Roy showed many photographs of the birds and we were all allowed to hold them.

Our next meeting on December 10 will be the Christmas party so please bring along a plate of food, a glass and a wrapped present valued at £3 for Santa’s sack and instead of Christmas cards this year we will contribute to the Acorn’s appeal.
