LAST Saturday’s Harvest Supper held in Powick Parish hall was a great success with 120 people sitting down to an excellent buffet comprising a great variety of savoury dishes to suit all tastes, plus various sweets.

Helen Bartlett and Julie Evans were thanked for their planning and execution of such good fare and were each presented with a basket of flowers and a bottle of wine on behalf of the Hall Management Committee. Entertainment was provided by the lively Worcester Ukulele Club who received a donation of £100 for their chosen charity Stroke Association. The proceeds from the raffle realised £100 for Air Ambulance and £100 for St Richard’s Hospice. The winners of the raffle were:- Vera Band (chocs), Janet Teague (chocs), Nick Mather (wine), Anita Inman (whisky), Sue Beard (wine), Val Townend (box of fruit), Jenny Flubacher (wine) and Madeleine Smith (Baileys). Members of Seventh Worcester Scouts helped with the serving and washing up and received thanks and £80 for their services. The bar was manned by Jim Allsopp and Roger Gurney and profits for the hall from ticket sales and the bar realised £600. Thank you all who came and supported the event.

This Sunday there will be the Annual Memorial Service in St Peter’s Church, Powick, at 4pm (there being no 11am service. Anyone wishing their loved ones to be remembered by the lighting of a candle is asked to give the names to Reverend Sue Irwin (01905 830270) or church warden Lyndall Brown (01905 830373).

Next Friday, November 7, Powick Primary School is hosting a Fireworks Spectacular in the school grounds. Gates open at 6pm, with fireworks at 7.15pm from the Pepperpot Pyrotechnics and there will be a pig roast, hot dogs, games and a bar. Advance tickets available from the school office are:- Family Ticket £14 (two adults, three children); Adult ticket £4.50; Child ticket £3.50. On the night Family ticket £16; Adult £5.50; Child £4.50.

Remembrance Day will be marked at 10.50am on Sunday, November 9 in St Peter’s Church, Powick. Members of the Royal British Legion and members of the Uniformed Youth Organisations will be in attendance.

The next Friends of Link Nurseries’ Coffee Morning is on Friday, November 14 from 10am to noon. The theme is Putting your garden to bed for the winter!

Powick ramblers meet on Wednesday, November 5 at 10am at the Bell Inn, Lower Broadheath for a four mile walk led by Garth (01886 833362). On Friday, November 14 , meet at 9.30am for a walk of 6.5 miles, leaving the timber yard opposite the gates of Eastnor Castle on A438 Ledbury – Tewkesbury Road (GR734372). The walk is on tracks, with meadows, woods and one climb, and is led by Diana and Roger (01684 567882).
