AFTER welcoming members to the October meeting, the president made mention of the many activities and events that had been organised by the Worcestershire Federation, the Severn Group and Callow End WI.

The noticeboard was full, with something for everyone. Members had been enjoying a number of activities during the preceding month, including a very enjoyable group boat trip to mark the presence of the WI Centenary Baton in our area, and the Federation Annual Council meeting at Malvern. Details were finalised for the trip to the Museum of Carpets later in the month. The art, walking and Scrabble groups continue to meet regularly.

Instead of the advertised speaker, Ray Sturdy gave an illustrated talk on New Zealand.

His photographs were excellent and took members around the magnificent scenery of South Island and in particular the area of Queen Charlotte’s Bay where he and the members of his party did a sponsored walk. On North Island he stayed at Rotorua with its very friendly Maori inhabitants, before flying home from Auckland. Sylvia Poutney thanked Mr Sturdy on behalf of everyone for such an enjoyable talk.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 11 at 7.30pm in the village hall when Chrissy Ching will talk about Joseph Paxton, gardener and architect. Visitors are welcome to just come along on the evening, or should you wish to find out more about our activities please contact Sue on 01684 592408 or janetclemas@gmail.com.
