THE President Margaret Coulson welcomed 25 members and two visitors to the October meeting.

Business matters started the meeting with the minutes of the last meeting available for members to read. Several members enjoyed the Vintage Tea party Group meeting in September at Bosbury with entertainment by local singing group Sounds Familiar.

The current Federation Newsletter contains many photos of the Centenary Baton’s progress through the county highlighting the many methods of transport and events enjoyed by members. Future outings and functions were mentioned too.

This month’s speaker Paul Costello was then introduced and gave an amusing talk entitle Utterly Undiscovered the title of his book.

Paul has lived in Ledbury for nine years and is known to many members as he used to work in the local library and also sings in the Community Choir. This talk was on his writings and how he became a published author. Before he came to Ledbury he ran a successful B & B at Minsterley in rural Shropshire. Any incident or amusing happening were written down on pieces of paper and kept in a shoe box. These formed the basis of the book and several of these were disclosed much to members’ amusement. As the WI has a Writers’ Group many questions were asked and various methods of collecting information and anecdotes were discussed. Margaret duly thanked Paul for an entertaining talk.

After refreshments, birthday posies were given out and details of the various groups (Writers/Craft & Luncheon) were announced.

The next meeting on Wednesday, November 12 at 7.30pm will be the AGM and look forward to as many members as possible attending.

Meetings are held at the Parish Room, Catholic Church, New Street, Ledbury. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
