THERE has been a lot happening at WI over the past two months.

There was the arrival of the Centenary Baton, which was handed over from the Hereford Federation to the Worcester Federation. First it went to the Malvern group, then it went to the Severn Group leader Carol Hutchings, after which it travelled by Morgan to Upton on Severn where it joined the ladies of our WI on a lovely evening excursion on the Conway Castle along the River Severn. The following day the baton was back in the Morgan and on to Pershore, from where it would continue its journey to the Royal Albert Hall.

For the September meeting the guest speaker was Michael Cope, who brought his beautiful rare breed barn owl Ghost and talked about barn owl preservation and what we could do to help this rare bird.

Members have also had the Worcestershire Federation’s Annual Council Meeting which was held at the Royal Three Counties Showground.

For the October meeting president Marion Hawkes opened the meeting with Jerusalem followed by the business. Pam Buckle gave a report on her experience as a delegate at the Annual Council Meeting, where blind marathon runner Dave Heeley and renowned gardener Christine Walkden gave informative and hugely enjoyable talks. Members were then entertained by Karen Van Hoff, who gave a talk about her business that she runs selling handmade jewellery incorporating knitted and embroidered elements. The meeting ended with tea and coffee served with homemade biscuits.

The next meeting is onNovember 13 and is an Arts and Crafts evening with Jaye Field and Margaret Norris, and non-members are very welcome as always.
