AT the September meeting the members were welcomed back after the August break by the President, Jill, who then introduced the speaker, Alan Thornton.

Alan took members back to the 1940s and 50s and had them in gales of laughter and nodding their heads, remembering similar things from their childhood.

Alan’s talk covered many aspects of life – daily life in the home, food and children being expected to eat whatever was put in front of them, home remedies for ailments, school life, holidays at the seaside and entertainment provided by the radio and later, televisions with very small screens.

Alan remembered especially Radio Luxembourg and the Ovaltineys. He handed round sheet music and we sang along with a tape recording of We are the Ovaltineys and then ended his talk with us singing Goodbye from the Ovaltineys.

After the refreshment break, Jill dealt with the large amount of correspondence including details of the WI baton's arrival in Malvern.

Next month on Tuesday, October 7, the speaker will be Karen Surrall who will talk about Majani Mapana School which is twinned with St James’s Primary School in West Malvern.

Members meet at The United Reformed Church Hall in Worcester Road, Malvern Link at 10.30am rear entrance (doors open 10am) – visitors and new members are always welcome. Please phone Jill for details 01684 566540.
